in response to communism. It is meant to prevent—through political,

THE BERLIN AIRLIFT
*The Berlin Airlift was a massive transfer of essential
supplies flown into Berlin, Germany during 1948
and 1949 by British and U.S. forces in around-the-clock
missions. The airlift was both an important incident of
the cold war and the most extraordinary peacetime military operation in history.

*The North Atlantic Treaty Organization is a mutual defense
alliance of nations from Europe and North America. The North Atlantic Treaty was signed in 1949 by Great Britain, France, Belgium,
Netherlands, Luxembourg, United States, Canada, Denmark, Iceland,
Italy, Norway, and Portugal. NATO was organized to defend member
nations from the possible aggression of the Soviet Union and the nations
of Eastern Europe, which formed the Warsaw Treaty Organization six years later

*He used the korian war to scare the US citizens of communism.
McCarthyism was a term that came to stand for reckless charges against innocent citizens.
THE SPACE RACE**
The competition between the United States and the Soviet Union
to explore outer space, most often defined by the race to place a
human on the moon, the Space race was an integral part of the Cold
War. Each side used the competition to demonstrate its technological
prowess in the areas of science, educatiojn, engineering, and management.
Both nations also used rocket and missile development gleaned from the
space race to strengthen their military establishments. The two superpowers had been working on missile development for some time in hopes of developing intercontinental ballistic missiles to deliver nuclear warheads. Both sides thus hoped these programs would help develop a rocket capable of placing a satellite into orbit.
